Barney the Macaw came in for a Picture

Barney came in on Monday to have his beak and nail trimmed and to be microchipped under general anaesthesia. The upper and lower beak of some

parrot species may tend to overgrow. While liver disease or inappropriate diet may cause the beak and nails to overgrow, sometimes overgrowth is

simply the result of the fact that the beak is not wearing down normally due to inadequate chewing activities. A high speed Dremel can be safely

used to reshape the beak and file the nails to a more normal length.
